Tax-Efficient Investing — How Ultra-Affluent U.S. Tax Payers Are Positioning Their Assets in the Current Tax Environment

Overview:

Wealthy families and individuals interested in tax-efficient investing are increasingly drawn to the benefits associated with Private Placement Variable Annuity (PPVA) and Private Placement Variable Universal Life (PPVUL) investment accounts.  This session and ensuing dialogue will offer valuable considerations for those interested in learning more about the structure and tax incentives of both types of investment accounts as well as when and for whom these investment accounts make the most sense.

Executive Bios:

Michael B. Liebeskind, Principal and CEO

Michael co-founded Winged Keel Group in 1989 and is the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Executive Management Committee.  He has been a leader and key technical resource as the firm has developed its market presence and strengthened its internal infrastructure over the years.

Michael collaborates with other Winged Keel Principals to help ultra-high net worth families acquire large blocks of traditional life insurance to provide liquidity for their estates, and/or private placement life insurance and annuities to shield a portion of their investment portfolios from current period income tax.  In accomplishing these objectives, Michael and the Winged Keel team work closely with the families’ other professional advisors to structure life insurance and/or annuity portfolios that  balance the optimization of economic results, minimization of risk, and/or enhancement of flexibility.

Michael graduated from Princeton University in 1981.   He began his professional career with the accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand, where he became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1984.   Michael earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from New York University in 1986.  Michael is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) and a member of the New York State Society of CPAs, the Estate Planning Council of New York City, the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU), the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and the Yale Insurance Study Group.

Michael has four children and resides in New York City.   He practices yoga, travels extensively, and enjoys golf and biking.

Aaron Abrahms, Principal

Aaron Abrahms joined Winged Keel Group in 2003 and is a Principal of the firm.  He works with clients on the development of large block life insurance portfolios and on the various applications of Private Placement products. His clients routinely utilize traditional life insurance products to finance estate taxes and/or use Private Placement Life Insurance and Annuities to shield investment returns from current period taxation.

Aaron has taken a leadership role with a number of Winged Keel Group’s key institutional and Family Office relationships.  He is a member of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU) and has been a featured speaker at insurance industry and Family Office events.

Aaron earned his MBA in Finance with Distinction from Columbia Business School.  He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania and was an Academic All-American in Ski Racing.

Aaron lives in Larchmont, New York with his wife and three children.  He enjoys golf, skiing, and travel.
